About Me

I've been buying, collecting, and selling records as a hobby and side business for 20 years. I’m interested in almost any genre or style of music: rock, soul, jazz, r&b, funk, blues, hip-hop, country, punk, metal, psych, Afro, Latin, other world music, etc. I’m not as interested in big band, easy listening, crooners, and not interested in classical unless it's avant garde.

What Makes Records Valuable?

Here's what I look at when I make an offer:

• Supply vs. Demand How desirable is a record versus how many copies are available? Promo pressings, regional pressings, and limited runs can be surprisingly valuable even if the artist isn't a household name.
• Condition Surface noise, scratches, and worn sleeves all affect value — but a record doesn't have to be perfect to be worth good money. The sleeve matters too.
• The Label Certain labels can carry serious collector value: Blue Note, Chess, Stax, Sun, early Atlantic. And many small and independent labels.
• Original Pressings The first time a record was manufactured is almost always worth more than later reissues. A 1965 pressing can be worth ten times a 1980 reissue of the same album.
• Complete Packages Original inner sleeves, lyric sheets, posters, and inserts all add value. A complete package in good shape is worth more than the record alone.
